How does an outsider become an insider?
Right Angle is one of only a few placemaking specialists that operates around the world, in what tends to be a very parochial industry. The lack of global agencies is partly because placemaking is an intrinsically local practice, requiring an intimate understanding of local culture, policy, people and economics. Over 15 years we have honed a fast and effective methodology for closing this kind of knowledge gap, and for leveraging our clients’ understanding so that we can bring a global perspective to the essentially local question of what is best for a place.
A good example of the value we bring as outsiders is the place activation strategy developed for One Bangkok, an immense development with the potential to expedite the Thai capital’s rise in global rankings and to re-centre the city as 1.83 million square metres of urban renewal takes shape. For the project we assembled a bespoke local research crew to work alongside our core team, willingly spent time on client soil and skilfully tapped into the collective knowledge of the project’s designers, developers, marketers and managers. The result: a fresh and respectful approach to placemaking grounded in the three themes of civic spaces, creative capital and civic brand building.
